True stories tracked along the lines of the raw human experience
This part of the coast is hard to read unless you’re familiar with the Goodwin Sands. Only the locals know about estuaries and tides. Nan taught me to swim the currents: don’t tread water, move. Once you stop, you drift, and then the distance from shore becomes too great. Keep moving, Isla. The moment you stop, the sea chooses for you.
A poem in the Weave
This tapestry poem grew out of my creative writing studies at Canterbury Christchurch and was displayed at Canterbury Festival. It brought together poetry, visual art and the possibilities of language beyond the page. For me, it reflects what I love about creative writing: noticing connections, experimenting with words and finding unexpected ways to tell a story.
At Sociaroma that same curiosity informs my copywriting and storytelling. Whether I'm working with a business, an artist or a cultural project, I look for the detail, idea or turn of phrase that makes a story distinctive.
