The Arena Of Progress: Equestrian Feature Writing
Why this story
What I loved about preparing the feature writing for Cornilo is the real feeling of being on a farm – mud, movement, horses and all. It’s a place where young riders build confidence step by step, not just in the arena but in themselves.
With this editorial, I wanted the children to feel recognised. To see themselves in the magazine, not as background figures but as the heart of the story. The aim was to capture the mix of nerves, effort and small wins that make learning to ride feel like something they can be proud of.
Notes from the arena

I moved past the technicalities of equitation and listened for what was really happening in the arena: small wins, wobbles, quiet acts of courage. From there, I shaped a story that put confidence and care at the centre, so the words on the page felt as steady and encouraging as the teaching in the ring.

Cornilo wanted the day to be more than a list of results. The feature gave children an identity on the page — catching their focus, their excitement and the courage it took to ride in the heat — and showed families what the experience really meant to them.

Digital to print. Final Cornilo editorial – allowing young equestrians to see their own journey.
Moving from the raw notes on the whiteboard to the printed pages of EQUUS Magazine. This feature didn’t just report on a horse show; it tracked the threads of nerves, effort, and small wins that make learning to ride meaningful. It gave a historic riding school a voice that travelled far beyond the stable yard.
